Comments
The handle tip of this spoon features a large, complex, and colorful shield with “CANADA” across the bottom that suggests a coat-of-arms. This cloisonné pseudo-armorial shield is a fanciful coat-of-arms and one of several of slight variations, all probably made by Roden Brothers.
The bowl depicts the Sebastopol Monument built in 1860 in the Old Burial Ground in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It memorializes the Siege of Sevastopol, Crimea, that took place in 1854 and 1855 during the Crimean War. It also remembers two men of Halifax killed at that time and place.
The triumphal arch made of sandstone has a large carving of a carved lion at the top.
