Comments

This slicker or polisher is a broad, slightly curved piece of wood slotted along the end to receive an iron blade, the edge of which was left rounded.  The tool was used in the later stages of tanning to smooth or burnish the hides.  Friction of the blade on the leather could also compress and seal edges.
