Slavery in Delaware was truly a “peculiar institution”; in the 19th century, the population of the state struggled, internally, between powerful slave interests and defiant and very vocal anti-slavery groups.

The Historic Houses of Odessa open Thursday, (November 18, 2010) a week before they have in other years, with one home decorated in a Mary Poppins theme.
"We find that the Thanksgiving weekend is a big weekend. People are looking for things to do with the families and get into the holiday spirit," said Debbie Buckson of the Historic Houses of Odessa.
