Comments
The tall, slender necked white vase has a bulbous bottom and is decorated in green, pink, and blue flowers with gold highlights. The mouth and flared foot have gold rings.
An early accession record states that this vase had a white paper label on the bottom handwritten in black ink “A favorite vase / of Mothers / Mary W. Corbit”. Mary Corbit (1848-1923), who married E. Tatnall Warner in 1876, was the daughter of Mary Corbit Wilson (1811-1880). Assuming Mary Warner’s recollection is correct, the vase should predate 1875. Its relatively light, airy design and flow-blue decoration suggests a date after mid-century.
