Comments
The tintype shows a gentleman from mid-torso up. He is balding and has a full beard and mustache. The tintype is enframed within a black molded thermoplastic case decorated with gilded guilloche bands. The inside of the hinged case cover is upholstered in a purple cut velvet.
An accompanying slip of paper identifies the sitter as Benjamin Archer Janvier (1808-1883). He was the great uncle of Margaret Janvier Hort and the son of Thomas and Mercy Archer Janvier. Benjamin married Margaret Barr (1807-1898) in 1835.
