Comments
The white, bulbous, rectangular sugar bowl has different animal scenes on each side and on the lid. One side shows five antlered deer; the other has cattle and people. The lid shows a boy riding a goat and two different animals reclining. Orange-pink bands run around the edge of the lid, the rim of the sugar bowl, and the outer edge near the top of the bowl. The sugar bowl is part of a tea service with cream pitcher, accession no. 2012.140.
The underside of the foot is glazed, which is not an early practice, suggesting that this sugar bowl is of late manufacture.
