Comments
The mortar, turned from a single piece of wood has a long, tapered body that flares at the bottom to become a 2-1/2 inch thick disk base. The inside of the body has been drilled out to a depth of about 9 inches. A band of hammered sheet iron, attached with nails, wraps around the top to prevent splitting. A C shaped handle is nailed to one side. It allows the user to stabilize the mortar as well as carry it.
