Comments
This spoon features a crest of the town of Oberammergau, identified immediately below. A crown-like castellated tower surmounts the shield. The bowl has a detailed enameled image of the Crucifixion. Oberammergau, a town in Upper Bavaria, Germany, has a 400-year tradition of staging plays of the Passion every ten years on years ending in 0. Given that, the souvenir spoon may have been made about 1900.
The ”800” stamped into the back of the handle represents the silver quality, namely 80 per cent, common in European silverware.
