Comments

This spoon is made of brightly iridescent mother-of-pearl (also called nacre).  The bowl retains clam original shell-form, notably near where the handle joins.  The handle is glued or otherwise fused to the bowl without benefit of metal pins.

For another mother of pearl spoon, see accession no. 1971.1054.

Although catalogued among Mary Warner’s extensive collection of souvenir spoons, this spoon was not created as a souvenir.  However, its elegance suggests it was not intended for much table use.
