Comments
The circular bowl has straight, slightly outwardly canting sides and a thick rim with molded detail around the outside. A pale brown glaze is sparsely daubed on suggesting Rockingham wares. This object form was often called a ramekin, derived from its use as a bowl for cooked dishes, often of cheese, meats, eggs, and the like.
The “USA” place of origin mark was introduced by law at the end of the 19th century. The number below it is probably a pattern number. These marks also appear on a bowl that appears to be cast in the same mold, although decorated with a slightly darker glaze. See accession no. 2020.47.
