Comments

This shallow plate has free-hand strips of yellow slip applied to create the sides of a square that encloses a central 8-pointed star device.  This decoration is unusual and, combined with the absence of a coggled plate edge, suggests that the plate was probably made outside of Pennsylvania, a common source of slip-decorated redware plates.
