Comments

The cylindrical jar has rounded shoulders and a rim that flares outward above the neck.  This shape allows the user to cover the top securely, perhaps after fitting a round would cap inside the mouth of the jar.  The inside of the jar is coated with a dark brown glaze.

Given the functional, rather than decorative, qualities of this jar coupled with its modest level of workmanship, it probably did not travel far from its place of origin to the farm in Townsend, Delaware, where it was used in the early 20th century.
