Comments
The large, colorless glass, engraved hurricane shade was made to stand over a candlestick to prevent a breeze extinguishing it. This shade has a swelled center and flared ends, forming a shape approximating a baluster. At the bottom of the shade, the glass edge is folded to provide strength. The middle part of the shade is richly engraved with wide garlands of four-petal flowers and leaves. Engraved alternating ellipses and diamonds encircle the top. This shade is among the larger and more ornate examples of its type. Most hurricane shades are undecorated.
