Comments

This fruit bowl of rectangular form shaped with large scalloped sides stands on a foot that continues the scalloped theme.  The thick-walled molded sides are pierced in the corners with a pattern of circles and tear-drop-like shapes.  Green-leafed and blue floral cornflower motifs decorate the inside and outside, including the four corners of the foot.  Cast foliate-shaped handles have been added to each end.  The clear glaze exhibits a blue tint where it has pooled in corners.

A similarly decorated platter (accession no. 1977.551.3) may have served as a liner for this bowl. Two other platters from the same mold but unpainted are nos. 1977.551.1 and 1977.551.2.
