Comments
The cups and saucers in this group constitute a pair of handless cups and saucers (2023.13.1-.2) and a cup with a handle and an accompanying saucer (2023.13.3). Each of the saucers is marked “28” on the outside bottom, indicating the pattern number, which conforms to a teapot (2023.13.1) and a sugar bowl (2023.13.2). All of the cups and saucers are decorated with delicate stylized boughs and motifs composed of dots in a line, all rendered in red, green, and blue. Wide pink luster bands accompanied by a thin stripe decorate the rims of all objects and the centers of the saucers, which enclose red floral sprays. Slight variations in color and brushwork exist between the handless cups and the cup with a handle. The white earthenware bodies of saucers 2023.13.1 and 2023.13.2 are warmer in color than 2023.13.3; the body of cup 2023.13.1 is warmer in color than the other two cups.
