Comments

The small, cylindrical coffee cups (sometimes called canns in reference to silver forms) have large floral sprays on each side of the C shaped handles, which have small flourishes on the outside.  Rendered in shades of pink with green and blue-green, the decoration represents the "famille rose" palette, a term introduced in the 1860s to describe the range of pink enamel colors introduced into Chinese porcelains in the early 18th century.

The cups have a geometric band at the rim and four parallel stripes at the bottom.  The underside of the cups is not glazed.

For other, contemporary examples of Chinese porcelain with famille rose decoration, see the chocolate pot, accession no. 2024.32, and the garniture set, accession no. 1968.809.
