Comments
This large, scalloped-edge charger is decorated in Japanese Imari colors. Its design incorporates exotic Asian birds, flowers, and garden scenes. Unlike most Imari decorations, this platter is divided into four quadrants, rather than the more usual three (or six), although it retains the center ring motif. Imari-style decoration has been part of Chinese porcelain wares since the 18th century. The presence of an unglazed and lightly chamfered foot ring on this charger suggests its origin in China rather than Japan.
