Condition Notes

The chambersticks have been electrified.  Three small solder beads raise the stick up from the table to allow for an electric wire, but a hole has also been introduced into the pan, which is where the wire is now located.  The pan of 1959.3737.2 has worn through on the bottom where it contacts a flat surface.

Provenance

Ex coll. H. Rodney Sharp

Comments

The seamed sheet-metal cylindrical shaft in the center of the chamberstick has decorative rings around it.  A separate piece of brass is soldered at the top for the drip pan.  A side ejector slides upward to remove candle stubs. The base of the shaft stands on a domed pan with slightly outward-curved side walls that roll around an iron wire core at the rim.  A cast circular handle attaches to the side wall with two brass rivets.  An iron washer on the underside helps secure the shaft to the pan.

This pair of chambersticks is identical to a single chamberstick with the same provenance, accession no. 1968.899.
