Comments

The pair of candlesticks has a wide rim above a cylindrical candle socket above a shaft composed of rings, reels, and other shapes.  The domed base is octagonal at the bottom.

The candlesticks purport to be of the 18th century, but several anomalies indicate they were made later.  Although cast in a mold, the rounded parts show no skimming marks from being turned on a lathe to remove casting roughness.  The rounded shapes display little crispness associated with 18th and early 19th century work.  More important, a few areas of casting impurities are identical on both sticks, suggesting that they were cast from the same model made from a third candlestick that bore a few normal casting flaws.
