Comments

The two candlesticks have shafts constructed of rolled sheet iron that is attached to domed bases with a nut and bolt on the underside and applied rims or drip pans around the top that catch candle drippings.  Side ejectors (missing from one) remove candle stubs.  Originally catalogued as a pair, these two candlesticks differ slightly in size and in the shape of the domed base.  Given how common these "hog scrapers" were, these small differences likely indicate separate original sources.  The hogscraper term, a popular rather than historic term, derives from the shape of the base that suggests a tool used to remove bristles from pig skins.
