Comments
The candlesticks have tapered shafts below a molded ring-like mass and the candle cups and integral bobeches. The bases are square with cove moldings that rise to an inset square plinth.
Although this pair of candlesticks looks early, features of their design and fabrication suggest that they were likely made in the late 19th or 20th century. The candlesticks are made in two parts, with the seam at the top of the base and below a slightly inset plinth on which the shaft stands, which creates an awkward transition. The shafts themselves are not cast in halves. The candlestick castings are heavy. Last, both the shape of the candle cups and the ring-like mass above the shaft are atypical of late 18th or early 19th century brass candlesticks.
