Comments
The candlesticks have a flared-trumpet turned shaft that stands on a domed base with an encircling beaded band. At the top of the shaft, a simple candle socket sits within a larger cylinder whose purpose is not readily apparent. It may have supported a glass chimney. Regardless, any candle drippings would have been difficult to remove.
Despite the many pewter lighting devices made throughout the 19th century, examples comparable to this pair have not yet been identified.
