Comments
This tall, thin candlestick displays only the barest decorative detail. It is columnar, the square-top candle cup representing a kind of capital. The shaft has a simplified torus molding at the bottom, immediately above the square base. The base has simple slits to form two bead moldings, one at the top and the other near the bottom, each suggesting more fully detailed, rounded beading. The square plan of the bobeche or drip pan at the very top does not align with the square base but is 45 degrees off. The solder repair of the shaft to the base may have introduced this difference in alignment.
The simplicity of this stick suggests a brass foundry without capabilities of more refined work. The shaft was not cast in halves.
