Comments

The elaborate and colorful candlestick features a girl in a yellow hat, a flowered white skirt, and deep red bodice.  She holds a nest of birds.  Her right elbow leans on a white tree encircled with a brightly colored floral vine.  The stands on an asymmetrically scrolled base with aqua, purple, and gilded highlights.  A yellow candle socket above out-swept leaves forming a bobeche is at the top of the tree.

The candlestick is paired with one having a young man or boy, accession no. 1959.3752.
