Comments

This simple, functional candlestick is of the “hogscraper” type, so-called by collectors because of its visual similarity to tools used to remove bristles from pig skins.  The candlestick is made of sheet metal rolled into a cylinder with the seam at the opening for a side-ejector.  A separate drip pan with a carrying tab is soldered to the top.  The bottom of the shaft attaches to domed base with a square nut over a threaded bolt (see image).  These candlesticks were made for many decades, beginning about 1770 until after mid-19th century.
