Comments
The candlestand has a solid shaft, made of modern bar stock, that attaches to a base constructed of two iron bars folded and crossed in the middle to form four legs. The foot of each leg is folded upward. A thin, circular piece of sheet metal, crimped around the edge, covers the tops of the legs. The top of the shaft has a looped circle opposite a long tang handle bent downward. A candle socket slides up and down the shaft, positioned by metal springs.
The candlestand is of a design with no early counterparts. The four-legged base wobbles, as it would on almost any surface. Early objects of this sort were made with three legs. The presence of modern iron affirms the time of creation.
