Comments

The small rectangular box is covered in red leather with an inset section of black leather in the lid below a leather handle.  The box is trimmed with brass-headed tacks, which form a swag below the brass lock-plate on the front.  A brass cover swivels in place over the keyhole.  The cover has an eagle and shield cast or stamped into it.  The inside of the box is covered in an oil cloth.  A name that is difficult to decipher but probably reads “J.W.Beale” is stamped inside the lid.
