Comments
This small round bowl has a few features that suggest is a late example of pottery decorated with mottled glazes and generally called “Rockinghamware.” First, the rim has a wide bead with an integral cove-like molding below it. Second, the brown glaze applied in a mottled fashion is paler in color than earlier counterparts. Third, the visible craquelure throughout also occurs on other similarly dated pottery. Similar bowls with “USA” impressed into their molds to conform to 20th century manufacturing regulations are accession nos. 2020. 45 and 2020.47. Nonetheless, dating this kind of molded pottery is inexact.
