Comments
This large treenware (a modern term for antique domestic woodenwares) bowl, is made of a burled wood that appears to be maple. The burl—a deformity in the grain—interferes with visual identification and also introduces some erratic growth patterns visible in grain separation and contributes to the uneven rim; however, all of those features appeal to collectors. When used originally, such wooden bowls function in place of more expensive ceramic or metal examples.
This treenware bowl has no finish, aside from the contributions of years of use.
