Comments
This footed bowl continues a decades-long tradition of decorating white earthenware bodies with transfer-printed designs. The bowl, however, is Dutch-made rather than English, thus documenting the widespread acceptance of and interest in the Staffordshire productions of the early 19th century. The bowl reinforces mid 19th century themes of exotica with images of Asian foreign landscapes. Use of a ceremonial parasol is notable. Similarly, the logo of the company became a sphinx in 1879.
