Comments
This delightful little molded basket with a scalloped body and integral handle is covered with detailed floral motifs and floral scrolls. The brown-colored glaze that covers the entire objects except minor areas of wear on the molded base gives the appearance of bronze. The basket may have served as a tray for calling cards.
Mary Warner wrote a label attached to the outside bottom that suggests the basked was owned by her mother, Mary Corbit Wilson (1811-1880), who married in 1847, the date written below Wilson's name. The date does not refer to when the basket was made or acquired, but the label, associating the basket with Wilson, suggests that Mary Warner acquired it from her mother.
