Comments

The straight sides of this basin or bowl angle outward, ending in a bead at the rim formed by an incised line on the outside and an ogee-molded profile inside.  The inside only is covered with a black-speckled glaze. The outside is painted with a thin redware slip, imparting a darker red color.  The redware from which this bowl is made appears to be relatively softer than most.

This basin is almost identical to accession no. 1971.747.  The only visible difference is that the score line near the rim is about 1/8-inch higher, creating a narrower bead, although it is still wide.
