Comments
The unusual device at the tip of the double-twist handle is a "fero de prora," a metal ornament mounted on the prow of a gondola. It counterbalances the gondolier in the stern and protects the bow from damage. The motif represents the city of Venice.
A winged figure is at the base of the handle adjacent to the bowl. A similar motif is on the “Lion of Lucerne” spoon, accession no. 1971.1149.
The spoon has no maker or other marks.
