Comments
The handle shows buildings in a great fire below “CHICAGO” and above “1871.” The Great Chicago Fire began on October 8, 1871, and continued two more days. The spoon is pictured and discussed in Anton Hardt, Souvenir Spoons of the 90’s: As Pictured and Described in “The Jewelers’ Circular” & The James Catalogue in 1891 (New York: the author, 1962), pp. 19-20. It is described as being available “in tea, coffee, and orange sizes.”
