Inscription

“R.M.S. BALTIC” is across the bottom of the roundel at the handle tip showing the ship.  Touchmarks on the back of the handle include the Birmingham anchor and lion, a Birmingham date letter "e" for 1904, and a "RC" or "RG" touchmark for the maker.

Comments

The RMS Baltic sailed between 1904 and 1932 for the White Star Line, primarily between Liverpool, England, and New York.  'RMS" stood for Royal Mail Ship, which indicated that this ship was fast.  When built, the Baltic was also the largest ship in tonnage in the world, but it was surpassed a few years later.
