Lecture: "Corded, Stuffed, and Quilted: Whitework in an International Context"

Throughout Europe and America, whitework quilts have been fashionable from the 17th century to today.  Over this period of time, however, the designs and techniques used to create them have changed, as has the cultural significance of owning them.  Come join us to explore the wide world of whitework.   

Linda Eaton trained as a textile historian and conservator at the Textile Conservation Centre and the Courtauld Institute of Art in London.  She was head of textile conservation at Winterthur Museum from 1992 to 2005.  Since then she has been the textile curator at Winterthur.   In 2007 she wrote Quilts in a Material World: Selections from the Winterthur Museum, and curated an exhibition of the same name, both centered on a whitework quilt made in 1815 by Mary Remington in Warwick, Rhode Island.
