Furniture Study Day

The furniture on exhibit in the houses of Historic Odessa deserves your attention! There are many original Corbit furnishings as well as key examples made by John Janvier and the several excellent furniture makers he trained and employed in Odessa from the 1770s on. Aside from local interest, this furniture reveals much about furniture and the furniture-making trade in Philadelphia and the surrounding region.
Dr. Philip Zimmerman, a prolific author and nationally recognized authority on early American furniture, will lead a day-long program on examining and understanding furniture using objects from Historic Odessa. Topics will include design, materials, construction, and condition. Group size will be strictly limited to ensure that all participants have ample opportunity to 1) engage fully in discussions and examinations, 2) pursue their own questions and interests, and 3) move safely within the houses. This day will be an enjoyable and memorable learning experience. Please consider joining us.

Cost of the day-long program, which includes lunch at the Tavern is $125 for members of Historic Odessa and $150 for non-members.
