Reception & Lecture: "The History of Materials for Making Maps"
Please join us for refreshments at a reception recognizing Betty Fiske, HOF Conservator and Curator for "Mapping America," from 5:30pm-8:30pm in the Historic Odessa Bank. A map lecture by Joan Irving, Winterthur Paper Conservator, begins at 6:00pm and will last appoximately one hour. This event is free for HOF Members or $5:00 for non-members.

Joan Irving, Paper Conservator at Winterthur Museum and adjunct professor in the conservation graduate program, will present the story behind the wonderful maps in the current exhibit: the history of papers, printing techniques and hand coloring in early map making. Ms. Irving has done extensive Xray Fluorescence analysis of colorants on maps and research on resources for materials and publishing in 18th and 19th century America and Europe.
