Exhibit: Dennis Young, Studio and Plein Air Artist
On display for the first time in Odessa is an exhibit of the colorful pastel drawings and oil paintings of the beloved artist from New Castle, Delaware, Dennis Young. His plein air (outdoor) artwork of regional scenes will fill the walls of the HOF Visitor’s Center. Young’s artwork has been frequently juried into art galleries and events though out the Mid-Atlantic States and beyond. His artwork can be found in numerous public and private collections.
Following a 30-year hiatus from painting while establishing a medical practice, Dennis Young has pursued his other life as an artist. His oil and pastel paintings favor cityscapes and the human form. A self-taught plein air painter, he is influenced by works in galleries and fine art publications. He has garnered multiple awards, including Best Use of Light Award in 2012 at Easels in Frederick plein air competition and the People’s Choice Award in 2014 in Tequesta, Florida. His oil portrait of “The Recruit” took first honors in two separate competitions in 2015 and in 2016 a "fictionalized self-portrait" won 2nd Place Award at the Kent Island Federation of Arts. The artist’s intention is to seek out the light in the painted subject and to create that “postcard” effect of a scene visited and revisited.
Dennis Young: Delaware Artist
Dennis is represented by galleries in Delaware and Pennsylvania. He is a member of MAPAPA, Oil Painters of America and he is a Signature Member in the Maryland Pastel Society. He has been invited to compete in a plein air competition in Curacao in 2017 and to expand into teaching and otherwise avoiding work around the house.
