Would you
like to take your class back in time to the 18th
century? This Historic Houses of Odessa is an
enclave of historic structure located in the
small residential community of Odessa, Delaware.
Relatively untouched by the development typical
of other areas, it offers a unique and
well-documented picture of 18th and 19th century
lifestyles in a rural village that played a
vital part in America's commercial history.
Participants
in this workshop will experience four different
aspects of 18th century living. In School Days
you will participate in lessons using quill
pens, slates and chalk. Learn about different
ways of preserving food, observe period cooking
tools and techniques, and discuss how kitchens
are different today in 18th Century Hearth
Cooking. The Corbits: A Genteel Quaker Family
illustrates the lifestyle of a typical wealthy
English planter living in a beautiful mansion
while Children: Chores and Leisure shows how it
was necessary for children of working class
families to participate in household chores in
order for the family to survive.
These
programs are samples of those available for your
students. By immersing you visitors in an
authentic and interactive 18th century setting,
we give students the experience of “walking in
the shoes” of their 18th century counterparts.
